Adventures
![]() 2008, 2009 |
We met at Kathy's house in Monterey for several days of reminiscing, visiting local sites (including Point Lobos and the aquarium) and shops in Carmel, and watching Lawrence of Arabia. Some friends came from as far as London, Atlanta, and St. Paul. |
![]() Memphis Vacation 2010 |
We drove to Memphis where we immediately had barbecue (and the friendliest waiter ever). For dinner, we ate at a blues joint (I had carbonara!) with some fine music. We visited a park, then drove through the Ozarks, the Eureka Springs art colony, and saw a Legends show in Branson. |
![]() Weekend at Wendy's 2010 |
Wendy and Mark have a very nice cabin in Wisconsin on Gilmore Lake. This weekend the group included Steve, Terry and their 3 kids (Stevie, Mark, James), and Sue. Wendy, Stevie and Sue kayaked, and the rest of us canoed 10 miles down the Namekagon, stopping for lunch at one campsite. I had my first kayaking experience the next morning, and I was hooked! |
![]() Kayaking on Lake Gervais |
We only got out a few times this first summer, but enjoyed it immensely. We went to Kolman Lake, then down to Spoon Lake and Keller Lake, but couldn't get through to Phalen due to construction on the highway above the pass. Jane also got on the lake during her visit. It was a relief to get the kayaks on the garage walls for winter storage. |
![]() Los Angeles July 2011 |
Greg was in LA for a consulting job, and they put us up at the Bonaventure. Greg took the subway to his meetings. On the weekend, we drove to Arroyo Grande to see Jen, Bill and the kids, and saw Nick, Ema and our newest granddaughter Vivian (2 1/2 months at the time). I visited the Bodhi Tree, McCabe's Guitar Shop and our old digs on Bay St. in Santa Monica. |
![]() Oktoberfest October 2011 |
This was fun. We drove to New Ulm, MN, saw the Glockenspiel (like in Munich), saw the parade and Hermann the Warrior, and had a German lunch. The lunch was kind of generic, though, and I like my Sauerbraten better. |
![]() Landscape Arboretum October 2011 |
On the way back from Oktoberfest, we stopped at the Landscape Arboretum in Chaska (near Steve and Carrie's wedding site). It was wonderful! We joined up, and revisited it on June 4, taking the tram ride this time. Beautiful! |
Segway Tour May 22, 2012 |
Christmas present from Steve and Carrie. We did the Minneapolis river tour with a guide who was very knowledgeable and we had great weather. What fun to learn to maneuver one of those things, which can go up to 13 mph! |
Jill's Wedding Trip July 2-11, 2012) |
|
We made a day trip to Duluth, going to Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock lighthouse, and an agate store in Two Harbors. We stopped at John's cabin (saw the outside anyway) on Lake Superior. In Duluth, we bought smoked trout and Polish sausage. A beautiful day! | |
